On a dark, cold night one sole man decided to change the world. This man was not Phillip Higelin. First of all, Philip is not a man, he is a 12 year old boy that's loves to play football. He also does musical theatre. I have a lot of respect for Philip because I come from a somewhat musical family and in 6th grade my brother played the trumpet and he made my ears bleed. Unfortunately, my brother still practices so I'm in a state of constant torture. So, I can appreciate musicians who can use their music to spread happiness and not use it as a form of warfare. Philip is really good at playing the trumpet so I learned that you don’t just learn how to play overnight.
Landon - "What was your most embarrassing band performance?"
Philip - "One time during a Christmas performance everybody in the whole band was playing at different times and it was the most horrible thing I have ever heard."
Landon - "How long do you practice every day?"
Philip - "I practice 45 minutes everyday."
Landon - "How long have you been in band?"
Philip - “I have been in band for three
years.”
Landon - "Why did you join band?"
Philip - "I joined band because I like music and it looked
fun."
Landon - "Why did you choose the trumpet?"
Philip - "I chose the trumpet because I thought the trumpet was going to be
easy but it wasn't."
Landon - "Do you plan on being in band in high school?"
Philip - "No, I plan on continuing my football career."
All in all I think Philip is a hard working
“man” and I think he has accomplished a lot over the past three years.

As the mariachi band played in their tight, black ornate outfits with matching sombreros, they thought they were merely spreading their Mexican flavored music across the crowd. However, for one
10-year-old, the cultural, upbeat melody pierced his soul, forever changing him. This young boy was Daniel Morales.
Daniel wanted to play trumpet in 4th grade, however he had to wait until the 5th grade start playing the trumpet. Daniel was inspired to play the trumpet because of his friend, Javier, who is part of a top ranked mariachi band in California. His mentor inevitably caused Daniel to choose the trumpet and he is currently part of the NIS Band. Daniel would like to make it to Jazz, but right now he is focused on learning the basics and all genres from Classical to Mysterious, and even a little bit of popular music such as Star Wars.
He also does cluster band and manages to practice at home as well. Surprisingly, Daniel has never taken professional music lessons. Daniel's favorite song is Creatures in the Attic, because it was the first song he played in cluster band, which involves grades any where from 5th to 7th. Daniel is in 7th grade and will try to get a scholarship to college to attend Cal Poly Pomona...and he owes it all to the musical magic of the mariachi.
