THE SANDLOT
MOVIE REVIEW BY JILLIAN FERRE

The bright sun shines upon the dry dirt, and the dead grass of the field, as eight 12-year-old boys rush out to get in their positions. In his dark, black, Converse shoes the first batter walks up to the white, weather beaten, and smooth home plate. The pitcher looks into his anxious blue eyes. He steps back, throws the pitch, and "CRACK!" The batter, Benny “The Jet” Rodriguez has just hit a spectacular ball across the field! This is how every day goes for this group of eight boys. This has become their never ending home. They always continue the game they left off the day before, and the day before, and the day before that. They play baseball all day, rain, heat waves, windy weather, or any other climate conditions that would deter less passionate baseball players. It’s baseball every day. Life for them is baseball; however this movie follows them through stomach churning and life threatening events too!
As the summer keeps running by, a new boy named Scotty, but nicknamed Smalls, moves into the neighborhood. He was hoping that this would be the summer to make some new friends. He really wasn’t athletic or very coordinated, so the neighborhood baseball fanatics may not be the friends he was seeking. He eventually follows these boys, to the Sandlot, hoping to fit in and learn something new. As he tries to do so, Smalls embarrasses himself with running the ball to the pitcher, rather than throwing it, and missing a ball that is hit right toward him in center field. Benny, the best player on the team, takes pity on him and gives him a few tips on how to catch and throw the ball. The ball gets hit straight toward him again, and he heroically catches the ball and throws it to the pitcher like he has been playing baseball for years! He feels proud of himself and joins his team, until, everything changes. Other than these mysterious changes that you’ll have to uncover for yourself when you watch the movie the rest of the movie is filled with other surprise like their banishment, puke, and life threatening encounters.
Lastly, I wanted see how NIS students felt about this classic movie so I conducted a survey. I asked male and female seventh grade students, “What is your opinion on the movie The Sandlot?” They had the following choices: 1) love It, 2) like it, 3) hate it, or 4) never seen it. Forty-six percent of the students marked they loved it, 24% marked they liked it, 0% marked they hated it, and 30% marked they had never seen it. I was happy to see this news! Not one student left bad comments about it. Most everyone had great things to say, leaving terrific comments, or they’ve never watched this movie. I was very delighted to see this because I really think this is an enjoyable family movie to watch. On my survey form, Carly Weststeyn, Adam Kennedy, Alyssa Torbett, Ryan Sanchez, and Bradley Borges ALL wrote, “Best movie ever!!!” Ronnie Meyer said, “Bomb.com. Duhh” You should really take this into consideration. Jennan Zayyid stated, “Thanks I want to watch it now!” The moral of the story can really be a huge life lesson for you. They just like to practice, and be themselves, while doing what they love best. Babe Ruth in this movie said it better than I could when he said, “Remember kid, there are heroes and there are legends: Heroes get remembered, but legends never die. Follow your heart kid, you can never go wrong.” The comedy is great, and I hope that everybody has the chance to see it. The actors really bring this movie to life. The costumes, comedy, action, actors, sets, and storyline all add up to a great family movie. Now, sit back, relax and enjoy The Sandlot, especially if you’ve never seen it.

The Mortal instruments: city of bones
movie review by alondra cabrera

"Slish, slash," went the magical sword of Jace, the shadow hunter, as he slaughtered a demon. This exciting scene occurred within the first half of the movie The Moral Instruments: City of Bones, where Jace is played by Jamie Campbell. With the demon slain, their world is free from one demon and they might just live one more day. The Mortals: Instruments of Bones' protagonists would soon face many more demonic obstacles. This amazing movie was directed by Herald Zwart and stars Lily Collins and Jamie Campbell. The couple's chemistry made the story more interesting. Their amazing acting talents made this adventure come alive.
Summing up the story, it starts with a teenage girl that invites a friend to go out and relax. They enter this place and see something she couldn't believe. Then, she starts learning about her mother's past and starts transforming in what she really is. At first she can't believe it, but then she knows that she also has more power than she imagines. In addition, she finds someone who catches her attention. Apart from their steamy romance, they try to stay alive as they face deadly demons.
Cassandra Clare is the original author of this five book series, and since the movie made $80 million world wide and a mere $20 million profit it is unlikely that another movie will come out. It appears the movie didn't appeal to the masses. I bet you're wondering how well it was received by NIS students. Many N.I.S students were excited when this movie came out while others weren't. Only 5% of 100 NIS students watched the movie, while 95% haven't. However, the 5% that watched said they liked it. Sabrina Tiscareno said, ''This movie is stupid because I don't even know about it. I'm waiting for it to show up in red box. I have no money.'' Diana Hernandez commented,''I'm looking forward to seeing the movie because it reminds me of the Twilight saga. All in all, grab your popcorn and go rent it. and watch The Mortal Instruments :City of Bones.
This movie is PG-13, Parents Strongly Cautioned. Some Material May Be Inappropriate For Children Under 13. To review more about why this movie was raged PG-13, click on the links below.

Percy Jackson: Sea of monsters
movie review by arianna thom

Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters is a fantasy filled action movie that has the critics saying,
"NO!" Tampa Bay Times wrote, "That first movie was obviously a calculated grab for Harry Potter-type movie success but didn't feel like a rip-off. This one skews younger, to an easier-to-please demographic, closely resembling other fantasies since. Read full review." The 12,141(source from Fandango) fans disagree but maybe they only love the movie because they love the books. I went to go see this movie and I can't decide whether I like it or not. If you are not a fan or don't know your Greek history, then don't bother going to see this movie. I felt the movie had more potential than it showed, however it seemed to rush through the book it was portraying. If you're not a fan you'll get lost!
Percy, played by Logan Lerman, must travel to the depths of the Sea of Monsters in the Bermuda Triangle to get the golden fleece. Annabeth (Alexandra Daddario), Grover (Brandon Jackson), and Tyson (Douglas Smith) travel with him on this journey. They fight many obstacles to get to Circeland, which is Polyphemus's lair. Luke, played by Jake Abel, is trying to revive Kronos, father of Zues, Posieidon, and Hades, and destroyer of Tartarus. This movie shows the book in fast motion. It's like the director tried to make the movie in his sleep! It is obvious that the director barely spent any time working on the most important parts of the book.
I surveyed my class and Percy Jackson statistically wasn't seen by many students. I asked 100students whether they had seen the movie and only 13 saw it. Out of the 13, two students loved it and seven of them hated the movie. Some of the students left comments such as, "I think it was stupid, that just now in the second movie, they are fixing the problems they made in the first movie." said Sebastian Albelais. Seth Duncan remarked, "It was incredibly short, boring, and does not follow the plot in the book. At least Annabeth was blonde this time." Adrian Bui said, "Meh, it was decent. I got mad at the ending when it didn't exactly end how I wanted it to." These comments show that the director wasn't even trying and couldn't be bothered with making this movie.
This movie is rated PG. Parental Guidance Suggested. Some Material May Not Be Suitable For Children. To review more about why this movie was raged PG-13, click on the links below.

Planes
Movie Review by diana hernandez

october 21, 2013
When the orange, red, green and pink planes start their engines, a loud buzz from their propellers can be heard, as they patiently wait for the green light to send them off on a racing adventure they'd never forget. These planes were in a race to fly around the world, hoping to win an amazing medal. The movie Planes portrays how one brave orange plane wanted to race around the world despite the fact that everyone said he couldn't finish the race much less win. This movie is rated a 5.2 out of 10 and was directed by Klay Hall. It's one hour and ninety-one minutes long. The casts include Dane cook, Stacy Keach, and Julia Louis-Drefus.
The movie is about an orange plane named Dusty, who had a dream he could race around the world. His friends told him he couldn't do that because he wasn't built for it, but that didn't stop him from achieving it. While competing he made some new friend's and some enemies along the way.
Critic's say this was a disappointing movie and wasn't the best movie he Klay Hall has directed. In my opinion I agree with what they are saying, but its an okay movie. In conclusion this movie has adventure and a little bit of comedy which makes this a great movie to see with relatives. I have interviewed 50 students and most of them have said they don't want to see it and they know how it would end. Arianna Thom said, "it's obvious what the ending was going to be, so I figured it wasn't worth going to see." Genesis Jimenez said, "I've never seen it, I don't want to see it because it looks to similar to cars." It seems this film crashed and burned among middle school students, but since it made over $156 million in profit worldwide it was a hit among families with kids.

despicable me 2
Movie Review by Kayla Ricaud

October 21, 2013
In Despicable Me 2, Gru (voice by Steve Carell), has given up his life of crime to raise his adopted children Margo, Agnes, and Edith. His pleasant family life was suddently disrupted when one day he is taken to the Anti-Villain League (AVL) and asked to help capture an evil villain who has stolen a top secret lab filled with a substance known as PX-41. This substance is a powerful liquid that when consumed will transform any animal into a rapacious monster. The AVL is sure that the suspect is hiding himself by working in a small mall. With the help of Gru's partner Lucy, they hope to find the villain and take him in. Meanwhile, Margo (Gru's oldest daughter) has fallen in love with the accused villain's son.
Fans say "YOU MUST GO!" and another says,"Good movie for both kids and adults." Critics say "GO!" Roger Moore, movie critic, says "funniest kids' movie of the summer." One of the favorite characters of the movie is the minion. The minions have a big role in the movie, and they are seen all throughout it. In the movie, the minions help Gru in times of need and save him many different times.
After interviewing many of the NIS students, we came across a lot of different answers. Majority of the students haven't seen the movie, but those who have really enjoyed it (nobody disliked it). Arianna Thom said, "The movie was super funny!" Hannah Brodie exclaimed, "I liked it but it seemed a little predictable." Lydnsey Williams commented, "It was simply amazing!" Diana Hernandez remarked, "I haven't seen it yet because I have soooo much homework!!!" Apparently Diana has some despicable teachers like
Mr. McCullough, which should also see the movie since they can identify with Gru (just kidding, and teachers reading this thanks for letting me use you to make my readers smile).
