ZERO TO HERO

Picture this, you are in the middle of a sporting event, you are flowing with sweat like the Nile River, and your muscles are burning. Unfortunately same time as you're experiencing that, your stomach feels like it went through a grinder and you feel like you just got
off a twisty, loopy-loop roller coaster. What do you think is more important while playing a sport: exercising or maintaining a healthy diet? If you said both, you are correct, and you will find some great ideas in this article. If you didn't, then you really need to read this article! Sports are a healthy outlet for students to relieve stress, gain self confidence, learn sportsmanship, and to increase their fitness.
If sports play an important roll in kids' lives, then they should do everything they can to excell and feel great while doing it! When preparing for a sporting event there are many different exercises and warm ups you can do. There are also many healthy snacks that you can eat so you don’t feel sick to your stomach. This will help you go from zero, to hero!
What do you do to warm up your body before a sporting event? Well, you can do push-ups to warm up your upper body, sit ups or crunches to warm up your abdominals, various stretches, jumping jacks, jogging in place, grape vines, jump rope and more. Don’t exercise for too long before a sporting event because you can waste all your body’s energy! Exercising benefits us in many ways. “I think exercise tests us in so many ways, our skills, our hearts, and our ability to bounce back after setbacks. This is the inner beauty of sports and competition, and it can serve us well as adult athletes,” stated the1968 Olympic Champion in Ladies' figure skating, Peggy Fleming. All athletes agree that exercising is important for any sport. If it weren’t, then how do you expect to stay fit? Even maintaining a healthy diet is important when playing a
sport. You can eat many healthy snacks like apples, bananas, salad, celery, strawberries, and more. Carrots are a good healthy snack to
eat because they are proven to increase eye sight. Eating these healthy snacks before a sporting event can give you more energy and increase
your ability to play good!
Finally, exercising and maintaining a healthy diet while playing a sport is very important. It can help you to become a better athlete by staying fit. Statisticsbrain.com says that there are 35 million 5-18-year-old kids playing sports (http://www.statisticbrain.com/youth-sports-statistics/), which shows sports play an important roll in many kids' lives. If sports are important then doing well, feeling great while doing it, and staying healthy is vitally important...which is why I think this article is important to publish! Maintaining a healthy diet and exercising can help other athletes go from zero, to hero!
So don’t be one of those lazy athletes that don’t work hard and are just a bum sitting on the couch and watching tv, be a motivated athlete and start exercising!
NIS NUMBERS AND NOTABLE QUOTES:
I conducted a sports survey among my classmates and I learned some fascinating things. I surveyed 50 students from NIS consisting of seventh grade boys and girls. The question they answered was, "What do you think is more important while playing a sport: exercising or maintaining a healthy diet?" The students' choices included, "exercise, healthy diet, both, or I don't know." Eighty- four percent answered "both", 6% marked "exercise", 4% marked "healthy diet", and 6% marked "I don't know." Some of the comments were very different, for example, Allison Askier said, "You need to be fit and have a good diet." What made me laugh was when Catalina Viadero commented "I like apples!" Selah Jeter said, "Diet because being healthy can help you do better." I liked Gracie Marguet's comment. She said, "Both! Being fit & healthy is the right way to go!" In conclusion, even though everyone has different opinions, it is clear that both exercising and maintaining a healthy diet is important while playing a sport.

How to Become an All-Star
By Samuel Kim

Have you ever found yourself ripping door knobs off doors when you try to open them? Do you randomly create earthquakes when you walk around school campus because of your muscular physique? You probably don't. If you don't, then here are a few tips to become an all-star. In an effort to make this article relevant to our readers, I first had to determine which type of all-star NIS students were most interested in becoming. After all, an all-star long distance runner is very different than a massive discus thrower. We did a survey on how many people prefer football over other sports. We surveyed around 50 male NIS students. Of the students surveyed, 64% preferred football and only 36% for any other sports. Hence this article is focused on becoming a football
all-star. One NIS football fan who we surveyed, Seth Duncan said that, "Football is the best sport ever! Hit hard like a boss." Many NIS students said that they liked full contact sports for action!
It is extremely important for the players to stay fit during the off season. A former J.A.A.F. football player from NIS, Andres Blancas says, "You will lose your abilities during the off season." There are many exercises you can do without any equipment to stay fit during this time. Some of the exercises you can do are running, push-ups, curl-ups, and pyramids. There is some training that requires training equipment. The players may need to use a ladder, dumb bells, jump rope, floor mat, and a resistance parachute to exercise and stay fit during the off season.
Last, it is important to find and utilize a training facility to stay fit while the players' are in their off season. Some of the places you can stay fit may be just in your backyard, garage, or just outside your house. Equipment may be needed, but just staying active inside the house can help. For example, you can do running in place exercises, playing a game that incudes exercising, and just going up and down the stairs. Also, the training facilities such as Cross fit and Adrenaline are good places to workout and stay fit during the off season. Adrenaline has speed and agility courses to train the players. It is located in Corona and in Riverside, CA. During a football season you need to find and get in a good football league. J.A.A.F. (Junior All American Football) is a popular program amongst NIS students. All info can be found on their website. I think this topic is important because there are too many people that don't know how to become an all-star in one of the most popular sports in America, football. This is why I wrote this article to help modern society to become an all-star in a popular sport everyone loves.

dUD TO STUD
bY BRANDON GIBBINS

Imagine this, you are in hell week at J.A.A.F. football, your limbs feel like they are about to collapse, your face is drenched in sweat, and your lungs are burning. At this point, you are thinking death would be a gift. Are you going to be a quitter or a winner? When preparing for a game, there are many ways you can condition your body and
increase your body's ability to prevent a situation like this from happening.
Two very important factors that come into play when changing from a dud to a stud are maintaining a healthy diet and exercising daily. However 78% of the 50 NIS students surveyed said that they think that daily exercise is more important. One of the things a student said about their choice was, "Michael Phelps has to eat at least 1500 calories a day which is burned off with daily exercise." Healthy diet is important because you will not be healthy if you eat fast food every day, and these foods will not help your performance in your sport at all. Nutritious foods will more effectively fuel your body. Daily exercise is essential when becoming fit. If you do not exercise how do you expect
to be amazing in your sport?
Lastly when I created my survey on daily exercise and healthy diet I thought that both were equally as important, but after I saw the results and quotes from people on my survey I realized that you should definitely focus on daily exercise a little more than a healthy diet. Either way you should still focus on a healthy diet too. In conclusion, we think that daily exercise and healthy diet are the most important keys in transforming yourself from a dud to a stud.
