When people hear a great beat in a song it draws them into the song. It makes them want to keep listening. If there isn't a good beat then most will just switch the song or switch the artist. Do you ever wonder where a song gets its beat, or where the pace comes from? Well, it comes from a place way back on stage, somewhere hidden behind bass guitarists, a lead guitarist, singers, and even a keyboard. The creator of these heart pounding beats can be found behind a snare, bass, foot pedals, cymbals, and tom-toms. Songs get their beats from the drummer using his sticks like Picasso used a brush...pure art! There is one such musician that attends NIS, and his name is Jarod Deshong. He skillfully sets a beat, a mood, and a mindset for the other players in his band Shot in the Dark. Jarod Deshong has been an accomplished drummer for quite some time. His drum journey began with an interest in making sick beats and his father's drum set. Jarod is ahead of the game and will astonish future producers that seek his talent because of his training, dedication, and passion.
Jarod beating his drums, shaking the skin of all who listen to his bountiful beats, and rattling heads, is how he plans to steal the hearts of rock lovers around the world. As an important member of his band Shot in the Dark, Jared banged out beats as they performed at Warped Tour 2014, and they rocked Anaheim's House of Blues. Then he awed the crowd with his band at Rocktoberfest. Despite being 13 years-old and considered an amateur drummer by some, he is very accomplished. It all began when he was two years old. Jarod showed a complete interest in his father's drum set and would sit on his dad's lap while his dad played the drums. This is a sign he would develop into a distinctive drummer. After a few years his parents let him take lessons at 5 years-of-age, and in 2009 he enrolled at West Coast Rock School (9064 Pulsar Court in Corona). Jarod wants to play in a successful band, and sweep the nation in a single album. While making mountains of money and touring around the world, Jarod wants to go far in life with his drumming career.
Jarod has the right mind set because he values how get got started, he's aware of his accomplishments, and knows where he wants to go in his drumming career. Further more, he is as passionate about his music as a fireman saving the life of a child from a burning building. He will do whatever it takes to achieve his goal of becoming a legendary drummer and making his mark around the world. This goes to show you that if one dedicates themselves to doing what they love they will succeed!

NIS BY THE NUMBERS AND NOTABLE QUOTES
I'm sure you're wondering, "…but is he even famous?" Well, I can share that his talent is known school wide. I surveyed 8th graders at Norco Intermediate School by asking, "Have you heard Jarod Deshong's drumming skills?" Thirty-six percent of the students said they had and many commented that he's a great drummer. Robby Angell wrote, "Chaa man he's pretty good!" Even teachers tell kids how good he is. Madison Johnson commented, "Mr. London says he's rad!" Although 36% isn't over 50%, the kids that haven't heard him play have definitely heard of him and his drumming skills. Maddison Snyder checked, "No" on the survey, but exclaimed, "I always hear how good he is!" What does that tell you? Well that tells you he knows what he's doing and word is getting out that he's going to be famous! I guess all I can say now is watch out, because Jarod Deshong is coming for that top drummer spot!
