You are in the distant future at a tall building called the Tower which holds all the resources you will need to stay alive. The Tower has the firearms and armor you will need to assassinate the robotic, ruthless, and organic aliens trying to make the human race extinct. The Tower is in the Last City, which is the last human community on the face of the Earth. As the video game player, you get to purchase all of the exotic weapons, helmets, and body protection you need with currency called Strange Coins. This currency is difficult to obtain, so spend your money wisely! Xur is the merchant that comes every weekend carrying some of the best battle supplies. Suddenly, you get an exclamation point on your in-game map. You then realize that it is the Vault of Glass raid, full of Boss villains that can take a lot of damage, and challenging physical trials. You are then left to prepare for many weeks by getting Strange Coins and Engrams. Engrams are encryptions that might be dropped after you eliminate a wave of enemies in missions and earned in multi-player mode. These are like rewards and each contain a variety of weapons and armor that can make your player stronger. Engrams must be taken to the Cryptrarch to be decrypted, which will allow you to obtain their reward. Then finally, you are ready to enter Venus to take on the Raid. At that moment, you realize that you need six people, but you only have one friend...who doesn't own this game. If you don't have six friends then you're left playing multi-player and dying constantly. Welcome to the wonderful world of DESTINY! Destiny is an online first person shooter video game set in a science fiction setting revolving around the galaxy. An online first person shooter is where you play with real people around the world in a perspective where the camera is supposed to be your character's eyes. The game is published by Activision, a video game publisher that has made one of the most popular video game franchises of the last 5 years called Call of Duty. It is developed by Bungie, a video game developer that has made one of the most popular video game franchises, Halo. In the video game Destiny, the player takes on the role of one such Guardian, and is tasked with reviving the Traveler (a city-sized sphere that sets just above Earth and The Tower). The player also investigates then exterminates the alien threats before humanity is completely wiped out. While doing this challenging task, you are followed by your companion named Ghost who is a small robot that is voiced by Peter Dinklage of Game of Thrones. As a seasoned gamer, I think Destiny is one of best games I've played in the last four years because its customization features are fantastic, multi-player mode is diverse, and the graphics made you feel like you are actually fighting real aliens. Although the game's cost ranges from $40 to $60 dollars, you can't afford NOT to purchase this little piece of gaming heaven!
Are you ready to change your destiny by playing Destiny? At the beginning of the game, you have to pick a class, a race, and the option to customize your character’s appearance. There are three different classes and races. The three races are humans, robots called Exos, and alien Awokens that are bluish-grey skinned creatures from space. The three classes are magical Warlocks, stealth-like Hunters, and strong Titans (over powered classes that have stronger weapons and armor). Destiny offers three game play modes that include story mode, strikes, and crucible. The strikes mode has waves and waves of enemies, which offers opportunities to earn a lot of currency and weapons. The crucible is Destiny’s PvP (player vs player) multiplayer mode. It is a little bit like Call of Duty’s multiplayer mode but obviously it adds elements of this game's unique concept. There are different maps that are located on different planets. For example, my favorite map is Twilight Gap on Earth. It is a short ranged map with a few sniping spots. Also there is the dreadful raid that takes place on Venus. It is a strike that can take about 2 and ½ hours, but some people have been known to struggle with this raid for over 13 hours. It has many challenging waves, however it also is the most rewarding raid of the game. It also may reward exotic weapons, which are the most expensive weapons that deal the most damage.
Never make a noobie mistake of buying a game without consulting multiple sources. Either the $50 investment in buying the game could equal hours of entertainment or it could be a complete waste of money. Destiny has gotten fairly good reviews by game critics and websites, and I think $50 dollars is worth the many hours of fun you will have saving the virtual world. Metacritics gave the game a 76/100 on PS4 and a 75/100 on Xbox One. Game Informer, a video game magazine, gave Destiny a 8.75. GameTrailers gave it an 8/10. Destiny won the following awards: The Game Award for Best Score/Soundtrack and The Game Award for Best Online Experience. Destiny was the most successful launch of a new gaming franchise. The one thing that they could have improved is the short and repetitive story. The background story was weak, but it wasn’t the worst story in gaming history either. The two things I do hate about this game is that it is hard to level up after level 20 and you cannot skip the cut scenes. My overall review of Destiny is that the game is still extremely fun because of the multiplayer mode called The Crucible and I give it a respectable 8.5/10 rating. Get ready to add a solid game to your video game collection!

NIS BY THE NUMBERS AND NOTABLE QUOTES:
I asked 50 NIS 7th and 8th graders if they have played Destiny. Twenty-eight percent of the students said that they had played the game and 72% of them said that had not played and had either said they heard about it or had no clue. Most of the students that played said that they loved it. Only a few people didn't like Destiny. Bryon Krontz said, "This game was predictable and extremely repetitive." Christian Houtchens commented, "This game was good up until you reach level 20." Angel Suazo exclaimed, "The game is very adventurous through outerspace with many planets to visit and the graphics are amazing!" Jeremy Gibson, who had not played it, remarked, "I saw my friend play and it looked as if it was very well designed."
As you’re scavenging for food, in what’s left of the near obliterated Washington D.C., you turn the corner and see a 7 foot tall monstrosity of a man. This lean, 400 lb killing machine is a super mutant. You know there is no way to talk to these beasts and all they ever want to do is kill but you must kill it first to survive. If you escape these nightmares, the rogue government wants you dead too. This is just your average day in the apocalypse, so do you think you would survive? Video games have been known to help with stress, some games even help spark creativity, and this game is spot on for both. Hypothetically, let's say you had a hard day at work or school, wouldn’t you just want to go home and blow the heads off of some crazy mutant because this game lets you do that right off the bat. The year is 2277, 200 years after the great nuclear war between the United States, China, and the Soviet Union. And you’re here to travel through what’s left of Washington D.C. in a search of your father in the Capital Wasteland.
The game Fallout 3 was designed by Bethesda Game Studios. Fallout 3 is an open world RPG. (role playing game) Meaning you could do anything you want from following the story line to going and ruining the lives of other survivors and get rid of all that stored up anger. In the main storyline you run around the capital but also in some parts of the surrounding states (Northern Virginia and Maryland) trying to find your father who ran off from the vault. If you’re wondering what the vault is it’s an underground bunker for when the nukes went off in 2077. In search of your father you find he was working on a machine called the G.E.C.K. This machine is a water purifier that will give fresh water to all that need it in the capital wasteland. Well that is until the Enclave show up kill your dad and try to take the G.E.C.K. The Enclave also wants to purify the water but only for people that have had any exposure to radiation, and considering the fact we’re in nuclear wasteland that’s pretty hard. Well say you don’t want to save all the people you know with fresh water you can just roam around and adventure. Some of things you can do is go find all the different locations of the map. (163 to be exact) You can also literally go and kill everything there isn’t a thing your character cant pump full of lead.
The game Fallout 3 won the following awards: VGX Award for best RPG 2008, RPG/Strategy Game of the Year 2008, Golden Joystick Award for Ultimate Game 2009, IGN Overall Award for best RPG 2008, GameSpot Award for Best Role Playing 2008, IGN Overall Award for Best Story 2008, GameSpot Award for Most Violent Game to Make It Past Aussie Censors 2008, Golden Joystick Award for PC Game of the Year 2009, Gamespot Award for Best PC Game 2008 and, IGN Overall Award for Overall Game of the Year 2008. After its release in late October 2008 it shipped 4.7 million copies. It was listed 14 in top selling games for Xbox with 1.14 million copies and number 3 on the PlayStation bestselling with 552,000 units as of January 2009. In my eyes this is one of the best games I’ve ever played. It has a wonderful story line that pulls you in and makes you feel like you’re really there. The fighting mechanic is just plan out beautiful and smooth. So with all that I give this game 9.5/10

NIS BY THE NUMBERS AND NOTABLE QUOTES:
Fifty NIS students were surveyed if they have ever played Fallout 3 and the results were quite saddening. An astonishing 84% of students have never played the game while only 6% have. Our very own Jeremy Gibson gave it a harsh critique when he remarked, "It sounds retarded!" Jasmine Armenta said, "It sounds like the band Fallout Boy," and there are plenty more of these hurtful words said about Fallout. This just goes to show you that if students are unfamiliar with something their opinions can be pretty negative...so all you out there don't knock it, till you try it!
Is there really a video game that increases your heart rate, induces cries of triumph and rage, is as infinite as the gamer's imagination, and could prove to teach life lessons that students could use to become better people while helping them become great leaders of our country? "How could this game begin?" you might be asking yourself. It could start with you being a mighty hero adorned with diamond weaponry, purging the dark geometric woods in Minecraft of all hostile life when, “Bang!” A monster explodes behind you, and you fly into the bubbling, fiery pit of lava. The last thing you see are your diamonds burning in the heartless flames, which is the first indication that all you have worked so hard for, is now fading away. As your fantasy world abruptly ends and reality is blinking, "Game Over," you sit there stunned that your video game character is dead. You realize your diamond armor and sword are gone forever, as well as the three hours of work it took to get them. It all has ended due to a pit of red, fiery lava. You have been forced to start over. What will you do now?
Minecraft is a game based around survival of the fittest and smartest. You literally start with nothing but the clothes on your skin. You must do what is necessary to survive, such as gathering wood, making a house, and hunting for food. Once these tasks are accomplished you can do almost anything such as mining for diamonds, making amazing gear, fighting the monsters that thirst for your blood, or creating your cottage, mansion, or castle. In Minecraft you can literally build anything that you can imagine. Another feature of Minecraft is the multiplayer aspect. The multiplayer feature allows gamers interact with the other players. You can battle the other players, trade with them, befriend them, and live near them. Another choice you have is to kill them and mount their head as a trophy. One of my personal favorite things about Minecraft is that you can be the bad guy. You can go and destroy other people’s houses and steal their treasure. It is all fair because the person you attacked can always come back and get their revenge. The whole time it is quite possible to steal from these other players. Minecraft is the only game I know of that has no rules and no objectives other than the ones you make. As free rein as Minecraft is, you cannot become invincible because the players and monsters you anger can always come for revenge. If you plan on destroying someone’s house and taking their valuables, you better not let them find out or your house may be destroyed as well. One very important factor in Minecraft is that you must protect or hide your valuables because if you don’t then it could be stolen or destroyed. If you do not wish to be annihilated, then setting up traps, such as arrow traps, is a good defense. Another option is to hide your home from attackers, such as making your house in the side of a cliff wall instead of out in the open where everyone can see. Those are both good solutions, but the best way to keep clever thieves out of your house is to just be kind. You don’t have to destroy their things, and if you tell them you like what they have built they may even give you items in return such as iron, coal, diamonds, and anything else of value. However if you attack these players they will most likely kill and rob you when you come to their house, rather than kindly trading with you. There are also mobs that will interact with you in Minecraft. The most common are the villagers. They live in their own small homes in the village, and will gladly make trades with you (commonly involving emeralds). Once again you are free to do what you wish with villagers. You can take over their house, destroy their homes, kill them, trade with them, or stay in the village. There are only a few negatives that Minecraft contains. The most frustrating is that you must have internet access or you can’t download Minecraft. Another downside is that you must have a recent model or new computer, or the game will not run. As annoying as those problems may be, they are quite easy to fix.
If you hate games that get boring, or have terrible endings, Minecraft is one of the few games out there that has no ending. On top of that, Minecraft has no rules, and lets you choose your own goals, making the game even more fun. Minecraft’s importance is clear; there is no other game that can help one's imagination run wild like Minecraft. Lastly, this game shows how important it is to build positive relationships with people because you never know when you might need their help. After all...likable people tend to be more successful and live a more fulfilled life than villains! This last lesson could prove to positively affect kids and our country's future leaders, and it came from a video game! Clearly, Minecraft is a game worthy of your valuable free time.
NIS NUMBERS AND NOTABLE QUOTES:
Only one question remains, "Is Minecraft worth thirty of your hard earned dollars?" Of the fifty NIS students surveyed 54% said, “Yes”. Parker Knopf claimed, "I wouldn't care if the game was $100. I would still pay for it!” Julian Ibarra said the game is worth, “...way more, and that after playing it, I would be willing to pay up to $150.” Colin Brown mentioned that, “Minecraft is worth $30 because of the multiplayer.” Exactly 26% of students surveyed said the game was not worth $30. Lilly Maiale complained, "it got boring so fast it wasn’t even worth $10." The remaining 20% of students didn't know what Minecraft was. This suggests that more that 50% of NIS students appreciate a game where they can let their imaginations run wild, and another 20% may just need to discover it to be hooked, like me!

CLAN CARNAGE
BY JIMMY VO

jANUARY 30, 2014
Barbarians and archers are stealing your gold and destroying everything you have in your village. The barbarian wields a razor sharp sword with a ferocious look on his face. Archers are shooting flaming arrows, from a distance. Your cannons, archers, and mortars are defending; “POW!” the fiery cannon ball shoots the attackers in the face! They all die! Some of your gold is gone, train an army and seek revenge against your attacker. Is this Clash of Clans the next block buster movie, or is it a new best selling novel?
Clash of clans is a video game where you first start out as a small village, so if you guessed neither from above you were right. After all, this is a video game review section. The game is comprised of warriors (barbarians, giants, goblins, and wizards, and dragons), resources, and building your own village. Some of the warriors are special heroes like the barbarian king and the archer queen. The barbarian king is very much like the regular barbarians, but he is much bigger than a regular barbarian. The archer queen is also like the archers but she is bigger and carries a cross-bow rather than a bow. To get these heroes you would have to use dark elixirs and build the structure in which they will live and train. As you progress in the game your village will grow, but there will be nasty and fierce attackers trying to destroy and steal your resources. Resources are one of the most important factors in this game. The resources are gold and elixirs. There is also something called dark elixir. There are many ways to get these different kinds of resources. One way to get gold is by building a gold mine. The way you get elixirs is by building an elixir collector, and to obtain dark elixir you must build a dark elixir drill. The final way to collect resources is by attacking other player’s villages. The gold and elixirs allow you to do many various things in the game, such as upgrading buildings, and making new buildings which make your small village become mighty and strong.
Defending your village is important in the game. If you don’t defend your village it will get destroyed by a foe (another online player). If your village gets destroyed your valuable resources will be taken away, and the foes might also take some of the trophies you have earned. Some useful ways to defend your village is to build walls around important buildings, such as the town hall. In addition to that you can build archer towers to slow the enemy down, giving your men enough time to destroy the attackers and save your village.
One of the most important factors in the game is to have an army ready at all times to demolish your foe’s village so you can steal all of their resources, which can give you a lot of gold and elixirs. Some troops have the ability to go after certain structures, like the giants mainly attack defenses and goblins go after resources because they are greedy. Barbarians and archers go after anything that might pose a threat or anything trying to prevent you from conquering a village. There are many ways to improve your army, such as upgrading your camps. This allows you to have more troops and raid other people’s village. If you upgrade the barracks it allows you to train better troops! There are wizards that shoot damaging, quick fireballs out of their hands, and there are also dragons that breathe steaming hot fire. Building the dark barracks allows you to summon stronger troops with dark elixirs which is a different kind of elixir that is more valuable. Building a laboratory lets you upgrade your troops making them more fierce and powerful.
All in all, Clash of Clans is a jaw dropping video game. The game is also free! The game is played on iPhone, iPod, iPad, and other devices. Overall, Clash of Clans is an awesome game and is worthwhile. As Justin said, “I can’t stop playing it…literally.”

CASTLE CRASHERS REVIEW
BY DYLAN MONTERROSA
8TH GRADE STUDENT
oCTOBER 21, 2013
It's a peaceful morning during the 10th century (Medieval times), but that all changes when Barbarians barge into your king's castle and kidnap the princesses. You are a courageous knight, adorned with either green, yellow, red, or blue armor. Your job is to find whoever did this, and wipe him out! This is the kind of stuff you will do when you play one of the greatest games of all time, Castle Crashers. Only one question remains, is this game right for you? Does it deserve the money you have saved from your allowance? Well let's find out!
Alright, first let's talk about what was good about the game. A good feature in Castle Crashers is that you can play with up to four players online or play co-op with your friends. Another great thing about the game is that when you play with your friends you can either beat the campaign with your friends or play competitively battling each other to the death. There are also items you can buy or find in the game. You can buy items such as bombs, potions, and animal orbs which can help you during the game. The animal orbs can increase your agility, physical strength, and magical powers. You can also find things like treasure or pets. The only flaw this game has are the bosses (enemies with heightened strength and powers), because they aren't a real challenge to kill. However if you aren't a hardcore gamer then you shouldn't experience this problem.
In the beginning of the game you have to choose between 4 knights, 6 if you bought the character DLC pack, but we don't want you having that problem. One hundred NIS students were surveyed to help you choose the best knight. The green knight came in 4th with only 8% of the votes, the fabulous pink knight came in 3rd with 20% of the votes, and the blue knight came in 2nd with 21% of the votes. The #1 best character to choose in Castle Crashers, according to NIS students surveyed, is the Red knight with a whopping 40% of the votes. Proud NIS student Brandon Gibbins said, "I love jumping out of trees and decapitating my enemies while I use my lightning powers to shock the remaining enemies to the ground!" Another student remarked, "When I electrocute my enemies as the red knight I feel like they are bowing down to me because they know that I've over powered them." In conclusion, many people agree that Castle Crashers is an amazing game and it's worth the money you've been saving. I give the game 8.5 stars out of 10. Now that you've heard about this game go ahead and start your epic journey right now so you don't miss out on anything and wind up hearing your friends talk about the game while you sit there twiddling your thumbs and displaying a blank, left-out facial expression.
The Amazing Xbox One

The year was 2008, the place was my living room, and this was when the magic first happened. I turned on my new Xbox 360 and slammed my television's power button. I probably hadn't felt this way since I was seven years old and frantically unwrapped my new WWE, gold plastic championship belt on Christmas day. This is the feeling I want to feel when I turn on the Xbox One. Do you want that feeling too (insert your own happiest story)? Well, I will give the information you will need to decide whether or not it will give you that same experience, but better.
First, let's start with the new and improved Kinect 2. The Kinect 2 is included when you buy the Xbox One. It seems that Microsoft has improved the Kinect's response time and you will be able to quickly skip from a video game to T.V. They also have improved it's camera to a 1080p camera and a 30 fps color. Also, it will be able to detect the slightest movements of your body. The features of the Xbox One's console and controller are truly futuristic. One of the best and most important features, is the capability to transport your Xbox 360 gamer tag to the Xbox One. Sadly, Xbox 360 games are not compatible with the Xbox One system, and it is also rumored that you have to register your video game that you buy. This means you might have to clean more public restrooms in a dirty pitstop somewhere in Europe , borrow money from you little sister, and search your couch cushions for spare change to pay for the extra games. Also, your going to be begging your mama for some dirty, boring chores around the house. And yes that means mowing the big lawn. The controller will be the same design as Xbox 360, but one of the most changed parts is that the "X" button in the middle is raised. The Xbox One will cost $499, and will be released on November 22nd, 2013 worldwide.
A lot of people make decisions based upon trends, their friends, or other sources, so I took a survey to discover how NIS students felt about Xbox One. The 50 Norco Intermediate male students that I surveyed might be Microsoft's enemy #1 according to the results. Forty-six percent of the NIS students surveyed said that they are going to buy the Xbox One. I couldn't blame the other 54% for not buying the Xbox One. Dylan Moterrosa had a good reason why Microsoft messed up when he said,"Microsoft completely failed. They made the Xbox One shaped like an eraser to erase it from history." I agree because it looks like an oversized vacuum cleaner wanna-be from 1982 that never made it onto the market and Microsoft decided to bring it back from the dead. What really matters is what your opinion is on whether or not you like the Xbox One's video game performance and experience. So, hurry and make your decision already. We all hope the Xbox One will give the same feeling as you had the day you got that message telling you that you made the team or the moment you beat your favorite video game.
